Field Day at Cottonwood Canyon State Park

Cottonwood Canyon State Park Field Day on June 3rd was both fun and educational! Sherman School students and homeschool students enjoyed visiting the 5 different stations set up in the park. The conservation presenters included Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Cottonwood Canyon State Park, NRCS, OSU Extension, and Sherman County Area Watershed Council. Sherman County Prevention conducted student surveys and provided water bottles, snacks, and stickers. This event was possible because of funds from Sherman County Cultural Coalition, Roundhouse Foundation, and Oregon Community Foundation.

Some comments from students:

  • "We learned all about soil and why it is really important to all of nature"
  • "Light pollution is serious. It has 7 phases"
  • "We learned about Bighorn Sheep and the way they grow"
  • "We saw lizards on our hike"
