FFA National Land and Range Judging Contest

A grant was awarded to Sherman County FFA to help with the costs of a trip to the National Land and Range Judging Contest. The 4 students who attended  competed against 98 other FFA teams in El Reno, Oklahoma.  They spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday in the 6 soil practice pits and participated in the  judging contest on Thursday. An awards banquet was held Thursday night to announce the winning teams and Sherman County placed 80th overall. 

NCLA Spring Livestock Showcase

A grant was awarded for the North Central Livestock Association to help fund a Spring Showcase where local ranchers brought livestock up to the fairgrounds to be previewed.  Local organizations held booths to showcase their companies and expert speakers talked about the cattle market landscape. Attendees enjoyed food, drinks, and live entertainment.

Sherman County 4H Day Camp

SWCD  awarded a grant to help fund the Sherman County 4-H Day Camp for youth in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. This year it was at Camp Morrow lakeside facility outside of Wamic.  Activities included: flagpole raising and lowering, with Pledge of Allegiance and 4H Pledge; songs and skits; natural resource-based classes by local instructors; nature-based arts and crafts, including leathercraft; outdoor activities such as hiking, archery, tug o' war, swimming, and boating; and a camp dance party. Trained youth counselors were on-site, as well as lifeguards for safety, and several wonderful adult volunteers. All campers were provided bussing to and from camp each day.

Maryhill Museum of Art

SWCD awarded a grant to Sherman School for a 4th and 5th grade field trip to Maryhill Museum of Art. The interactive tour focused on the history of the museum, the American Indian wing, and the amazing chess sets. The students enjoyed an outdoor scavenger hunt and lunch in the grass. Several parent volunteers helped chaperone this trip.
